Phone Sex
Mariah Carey’s new video with Jermaine Dupri, “Get Your Number”, has been released in Europe. It’s a great song if you haven’t heard it on her CD. I did notice there was a lot of masturbation and furniture humping … even for a Mariah video.
Don’t get me wrong — most Mariah videos have a little bit of masturbation. Each rapper you add to the song equals a little more cleavage and a little more ass. But this video was like a time warp. I suddenly thought it was the early 1990′s and I was watching a Madonna video.
I think the part where she’s having an orgasm of top of the big phone was the most entertaining
The gigantic couch was 2nd best. She was all over that thing. They are gonna have to clean that off when she gets done with it.
Ooops, am I saying too much? Oh well. Still a great song and video. I love you Mariah. It’s not your fault…Vaginas have a mind of their own.
And Jermaine Dupri is looking good. Is he still with Janet? I saw those naked paparazzi photos of Janet this week. Oh my…. it’s good to be gay
Piracy Sucks
Vince wrote a very well-worded post about Fiona Apple on his blog, which included a great section about why piracy is so shitty.
I agree whole-heartedly. Songs are 99 cents in the iTunes Music Store. Are you too cheap to spend 99 cents for a person’s hard work? I see people spend almost that same amount on a Coke from the vending machine all the time. How about 3 bucks for a cup of coffee? But 99 cents to purchase a song? They balk at the concept.
And what about $9.99 to download an album? Is that really too much to ask? People spend a lot more on items that are worth a lot less.
So don’t be a cheap asshole when it comes to buying music.

A Good Year for Mariah Fans
I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it before, but my favorite female singer is Mariah Carey. I have been a devoted fan since the 90′s, through good times and the bad, and I am always happy to hear goods news about her.
Well it looks like 2005 is a great year for Mariah fans. Sony (her old label) is releasing a new version of her 5x platinum Merry Christmas CD 11 years later.
Along with the original 10 tracks, there is a 2005 Jermaine Dupri remix of “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town” and the track “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.” In addition, there will be a DVD with 8 music videos, including a claymation (animated with clay) version of the remixed “Santa Claus…” song.
But wait…there’s more. The Emancipation of Mimi is going to be re-released with more tracks on it. One of them is “Don’t Forget About Us” which is going to be the 4th single off the album. I haven’t heard it, but apparently it’s amazing and described as being the next huge “We Belong Together” There will also be a new song with Twista called “So Lonely”, which is also on Twist’s new CD . In addition, there will be remixes of “We Belong Together” and “Shake It Off”. And yes, there is even more. There will be music videos for “It’s Like That, We Belong Together, Shake It Off, and Get Your Number” (which will be her 3rd single).
It looks like 2005 will continue to be a huge year for Mariah. Aside from her massive success, she is releasing multiple CD’s with new tracks, new remixes, and music videos. It’s nice to see she’s giving fans what they want, I wish more singers would release things like this.
Like Mariah says, “It isn’t a comeback, I never went away.”
The new edition of Emancipation will be out on November 15th (just in time for my birthday) and Merry Christmas will be out on October 25th.
This is the video listing for the Christmas DVD:
1. Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town
2. All I Want For Christmas Is You
3. Miss You Most (At Christmas Time)
4. All I Want For Christmas Is You
5. Joy To The World
6. O Holy Night
7. All I Want For Christmas Is You
8. Joy To The World

UPDATE: I’ve heard the new song “Don’t Forget About Us” and I agree, it really is comparable to “We Belong Together”. If this doesn’t go to #1, I will be very surprised. I also heard her new song with Twista. I don’t like it when Mariah does that heavy breathing, whisper voice. She has the power to sing, so she should use it. She was mainly just background for this song. I understand it’s that way because this was actually recorded for Twista’s CD. But I think she should have added her own vocals for her version.
How did I hear the songs early? A simple Google search will lead the way

My first CD’s
I was thinking about how I look forward to Madonna’s new CD coming out. Then I realized I have been a fan of hers for over 15 years now. Wow, that’s a long time. She really is incredible.
That lead me to realize my first CD was a Madonna CD. I got her album “True Blue” either in 1990 or 1991, I cannot remember which. I have no idea why I picked that to be my first. I had most of her others on cassette, I guess “True Blue” was the missing link. In addition to “True Blue”, I also got the Nelson CD “After the Rain” at the same time.
And that’s a little embarrassing. Madonna has stayed, but the long haired rockers of Nelson are long gone. For those of you who are too young to remember, CD’s originally came in these tall boxes that had the actual CD + jewel case inside.
I miss those boxes. They were cool for some reason. They usually had additional artwork, which I liked. Believe it or not, if you ever go into a Sam’s Club, I think they still have those damn boxes on new CD’s
I guess somebody liked them.
New Madonna Cover Revealed
It’s been a really rough weekend and I really should be blogging about more important issues. But right now I just wanted to make a quick post about something I look forward to — Madonna’s new album, Confessions on a Dance Floor, which comes out on Nov. 15th in the U.S.

Music Flashback – Sept. 2000
At this time 5 years ago, the #1 song on Billboard was Madonna’s “Music”. Has it really been that long?
That sure does bring back memories. I remember when Madonna was American. She’s British now, you know… she has the fake accent to prove it.
Come to think of it, I also remember when Madonna was black. And then there was that time in 1999 when she was a geisha.
Oh, Madonna… nothing ever stays the same, huh? Anyway, I loved “Music” as I love all of Madonna’s albums. And I look forward to her new album coming out this year.
The world was such a different place in September 2000.
gettin’ sticky with it

This morning I watched a stick-figure re-enactment of the Fatboy Slim video “Weapon of Choice”. I highly recommend it for a good laugh and good use of Flash animation. I’m sure a lot of time went into the minimalist stick design.

Melissa Etheridge is “back”!

I just read a quick article on Yahoo! about Melissa Etheridge, with an update on her recovery from cancer.
“I would say I’m 97 percent back now,” Etheridge told AP Radio in an interview. “It is very hard. … Chemotherapy is so hard on a person. And I would say I’m fully recovered, yeah.”
I was just listening to Melissa’s “Lucky” CD this morning. It’s such a great CD. Due to her cancer, I know she wasn’t able to promote this album nearly as much as it deserved. But it is a phenominal CD filled with compelling and insightful songs.
Good for you, Melissa. I’m so glad you’ve made it.
