A certain situation is really pissing me off today, but since I’m not supposed to discuss these matters on my blog, I’ll just refer to the victim as John Doe and the victimizer as Jane Bitch. These are the two characters in this play. Do you follow?
When people are sick at John’s work, they still come in. Instead of being respectful and staying home, they come into the office, hacking and snotting all over the rest of the employees. People are constantly swapping colds and flus at John’s work.
Eventually John gets sick too… at least once per month and usually ends up having to miss work. He does it out of respect, because he feels it’s unfair to share his germs with other employees.
Today, the Bitch decided she’d had enough of John missing work when he was sick. She went to the manager and threw a big tantrum, claiming John has a “suspicious record” of calling in sick. She then gave John a lecture about how he needs to “suck it up” and come anyway, regardless of his fever, vomiting, and/or any other health ailments.
John is doing the right thing by staying home, and if the other damn employees would follow the same policy, this wouldn’t be a problem.
Studies have shown that companies lose millions of dollars per year by allowing sick employees to come to work. When they enforce rules requiring sick employees to stay home, there is a significant improvement in productivity in the workplace, resulting in more revenue.
I am just furious to hear about this confrontation today. How dare she accuse him of being “suspicious” when he’s the best employee the company has!
John never misses a deadline or drops the ball on a project. As long as he gets the job done, I think it’s irrelevant that he takes sick days. He’s a salary employee, so what the hell is the difference???
This is why I hate corporate America. They will work you to death! You could be on your death bed, taking your last breath, and some dumbass would say “Hey, before you die, can you do one last report for me?”
I encountered it in every office I worked in, and John has too. It doesn’t matter where you work or who you work for, there is something seriously wrong with the ethics of corporations.
If you are ill, you should stay home. You should not feel as if you have to abuse your body just to help someone else get rich off your labor.
I can tell you one thing—- I quit working for corporate America 1 year and 1 month ago today, and I proudly raise my middle fingers to the bigwigs who feast off their employees’ blood, sweat, and tears! You drive your nice cars to your nice houses, and your employees get paid minimum wage while they work their fingers to the bones. What the fuck is wrong with this picture?
