I’ve updated my blog design for 2008. I try to change it once per year. As usual, it was a bit of a challenge. I would get everything nice and neat for Firefox and Safari, then I’d check it in Internet Explorer and it looked like a broken mess.
This is the first edition that has been completely designed using CSS DIV’s, which Internet Explorer does not play nice with. I’m awful with programming, but as far as I know, I pulled it off with this one.
I finally changed the logo I’ve been using for 3 years. I always liked that cracked font, it was the same font used for the “Psycho” movie posters. But it was time for something new.
Please let me know if you have problems viewing the site because I want to know.
It’s been an emotional time period for me. Last week, I made contact with Dennis, who I had a really bad break-up with 7 years ago. I apologized for hurting him and leaving him so abruptly. We made peace with the issue; or at least as much peace as you can find in a bad break-up.
The problem is that I just realized I never took time to grieve and I think every relationship requires a grieving process. It was all so fast and then I was with Rodney and caught up with that. Then life took control and fast forward to 2008, and I just never took the time to deal with it.
So now it’s crept up on me and finally, after all this time, I have begun to really feel the sadness that Dennis felt in 2001. When I traveled to see my family in Illinois last weekend by myself, that’s when it really hit me. I listened to songs that made me think of him and just re-lived a lot of memories in my head.
Last night I had a dream about him. He had returned after all this time and was trying to win back my love. He had been talking to all my relatives to find out about how my grandparents met, and he was going to try to re-create some dinner scene at a restaurant that was reflective because he wanted us to be together until we died just like they were. And he had also talked to everyone about my childhood, collecting stories and photos because he wanted to know everything about my whole life from the start. He was intent on knowing every part of who Nathan is.
Having a dream about someone is so personal. It feels like they have embedded themselves in your subconscious mind in ways you can’t control or prevent. I really feel haunted by this.
Today it was confirmed that Mariah Carey’s single “Touch My Body” has broken the record set by Elvis Presley for the most #1’s. Elvis had 17 and Mariah now has 18. The Beatles have the highest record, set at 20, and Mariah is well on her way to beating that. Yay!
There has been a great deal of buzz about her upcoming album E=MC2, and all of it positive. At the beginning of the week, several of the songs were leaked and surprisingly the big gossip sites have remained silent about it. I wonder why? Well I guess I’m letting the cat out of the bag.
It appears as if there was some type of studio documentary Mariah was putting together that explains how each song was written. The footage includes about 2 minutes of previews from the songs. I don’t know where the source of the leaks is, but it’s been fascinating to hear and see how a song is made. They keep appearing on YouTube, but then are quickly pulled. So if you want to hear them, try searching later at night.
The tracks leaked were “Love Story” (a ballad, rumored to be her next single and next #1 hit), “Bye Bye” (a very sad song about death and loss), and “Migrate” (which is the infamous song she performed poorly on SNL). When the criticism came up that she gave a bad performance of “Migrate” last month, Mariah defended herself saying she hadn’t had time to plan the live version since she was a last minute replacement for Janet Jackson. I have to agree with Mariah, the studio version really is good!
Another song is “I’m That Chick”, which Mariah performed on MTV last week. Wow. This song is really addictive and sounds unlike anything she’s ever done. I really like it.
So is this Mariah’s best album ever? At minimum, I think it’s going to be one of the best ones since the 1990’s. She has a completely new perspective on music and each song is extremely unique. One thing I’ve noticed is that Mariah has dramatically improved her lyrics. Every track has a very catchy hook to it that gets stuck in your head, and they are memorable. I find myself listening to the previews over and over again.
Congratulations, Mariah! I hope you go on to beat even more records!

A certain situation is really pissing me off today, but since I’m not supposed to discuss these matters on my blog, I’ll just refer to the victim as John Doe and the victimizer as Jane Bitch. These are the two characters in this play. Do you follow?
When people are sick at John’s work, they still come in. Instead of being respectful and staying home, they come into the office, hacking and snotting all over the rest of the employees. People are constantly swapping colds and flus at John’s work.
Eventually John gets sick too… at least once per month and usually ends up having to miss work. He does it out of respect, because he feels it’s unfair to share his germs with other employees.
Today, the Bitch decided she’d had enough of John missing work when he was sick. She went to the manager and threw a big tantrum, claiming John has a “suspicious record” of calling in sick. She then gave John a lecture about how he needs to “suck it up” and come anyway, regardless of his fever, vomiting, and/or any other health ailments.
John is doing the right thing by staying home, and if the other damn employees would follow the same policy, this wouldn’t be a problem.
Studies have shown that companies lose millions of dollars per year by allowing sick employees to come to work. When they enforce rules requiring sick employees to stay home, there is a significant improvement in productivity in the workplace, resulting in more revenue.
I am just furious to hear about this confrontation today. How dare she accuse him of being “suspicious” when he’s the best employee the company has!
John never misses a deadline or drops the ball on a project. As long as he gets the job done, I think it’s irrelevant that he takes sick days. He’s a salary employee, so what the hell is the difference???
This is why I hate corporate America. They will work you to death! You could be on your death bed, taking your last breath, and some dumbass would say “Hey, before you die, can you do one last report for me?”
I encountered it in every office I worked in, and John has too. It doesn’t matter where you work or who you work for, there is something seriously wrong with the ethics of corporations.
If you are ill, you should stay home. You should not feel as if you have to abuse your body just to help someone else get rich off your labor.
I can tell you one thing—- I quit working for corporate America 1 year and 1 month ago today, and I proudly raise my middle fingers to the bigwigs who feast off their employees’ blood, sweat, and tears! You drive your nice cars to your nice houses, and your employees get paid minimum wage while they work their fingers to the bones. What the fuck is wrong with this picture?
