Nathan Exposed: the naked truth about my gay life

Tonight was the first time I watched American Idol this season. I usually like to jump in just around the end of a season and get the snippets. But of course I had to watch tonight because of Mariah Carey.

First of all… David Cook… wow. I’ve heard his name, and I always look out for the people I hear buzz about before I’ve ever seen them perform. I don’t know the first thing about him or his style, but this performance of “Always Be My Baby” was incredible. I loved it!

Next on my radar was David Archuleta. What a cutie. And yes, I know he’s 17. I’m not being some dirty perv. I’m just saying he’s adorable. I liked his performance of “When You Believe”.

Syesha Mercado’s “Vanishing” performance was really rock solid, although very “safe”. She hit all the right notes, everything was in tune. But it was a carbon copy of the original. I did notice the comment about it being a song that people wouldn’t know, so I’m not sure how other people perceived it. But if you are a Mariah fan, you’ll probably know the song really well.

The Jason Castro version of “I Don’t Wanna Cry” also stood out. Worth a mention.

So all you American Idol fans out there… who do you like and dislike? Who’s your pick for the winner?

This is a message from Rodney. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who extended well wishes to me. I had a dramatic event happen this past week. It was a very eye opening experience. It just shows you that no job is “safe”. I have a very loving, understanding and supportive husband. He is my rock! I’m the luckiest man in the world and I just wanted to share this with our blog friends. I promise you will hear from me again. “You haven’t failed until you give up”. Here’s a side note our Petey will have surgery on April 24th to get rid of those bladder stones. Please keep him in your prayers. Lots of hugs, Rodney

Whew, my taxes are done and TurboTax let me know today that they had been accepted by the IRS. What a relief to have that over with.

I made some boo-boos in 2007 when I started my business, and as a result ended up owing money rather than getting money back. But that’s okay, because I’d known about it since last December and was prepared to pay.

The hard part was just getting together all the receipts and such. But I have to give myself credit. For the most part, I was pretty organized. There were a few things I could have done better and that was a headache, but now I know and I’ll be much more prepared in 2009. (Wow, 2009… I can’t even believe I’m thinking about 2009!)

So I can finally relax this weekend. Yay!

My newest article for Out & About Newspaper addresses the topic of politics and who should run our country. My personal blog clearly reflects support for Hillary (despite some of her tactics, she’s still my choice). But in this article, I take a more neutral approach and focus on the fact that we Democrats need to be united, regardless of our pick.

—–

I’ve received several requests to discuss my thoughts on the Democratic Presidential nominees, so for this article, I’m going to look at both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

The Positive Points

Let me start out by saying I really and truly feel proud of both of our nominees. They seem to have very optimistic and exciting plans for the future of America. The fact that the citizens of the United States have been so vocal and actively involved this year is proof that we really are dedicated to moving forward in this country. We want to get involved, we want our voices to be heard, and we’re pushing for a better country where everyone receives the same basic human rights.

Has anyone seen the new Pontiac G8 GT commercial inspired by the 1980’s Nintento game Spy Hunter? I loved that game so much! It was very cool seeing it turned into a live video action sequence! I get sentimental just hearing that familiar music. :)

Here’s the commercial:

Today Rodney lost his job at the hotel he worked at. It came as a complete shock to us and since I’m self employed, I’m naturally worried sick about making ends meet for both of us. But I’m optimistic and I know he’ll find something else.

I guess it all started last week when Rodney got a “talking to” for being sick so often. I wrote a very thinly veiled post about it here. To this day, I don’t understand how somebody can get fired for having too many flus and colds.

When you work in a hotel, you are exposed to a lot of sick people, both employees and guests. Because of this, it’s only natural that you would have to miss work. It’s very logical to me.

Employees get X amount of sick days per year, and Rodney still had some left. So it wasn’t as if he was abusing the system, and he always followed the proper chain of commands when calling in sick. He worked in an office in the sales department, and when he was sick, he still did work from home via e-mail. So I have to say he really gave 100%, even when he didn’t feel well.

I just feel blind sighted. We both do. Rodney got glowing reviews during his employee evaluations, and his sales record was so good that he had even received bonuses. He got along with everyone. We just don’t understand. They told him he’d been sick too often, and that was that.

But anyway, I guess I could whine all day. The bottom line is that it’s done, it’s over, and he’s unemployed. Bleh, I hate this feeling of dread and worry.

Onward to the next adventure for Rodney! Everything does happen for a reason.

My friend Rey sent this via e-mail last night, and I decided to turn it into a blog post. I’m just a rebel like that…

1. What time did you get up this morning?
The better question is what time did I go to bed this morning? 4:30 AM, woke up at 12 Noon. (Sidenote: I always think it’s funny when I tell people that and they say “I wish I could sleep in like you do.” I’m not sleeping in, I’m just sleeping on a different schedule. ;) )

2. Diamonds or pearls?
Diamonds, fo shizzle.

3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema?
Bee Movie (Wow, has it been since November 2007???)

4. What are your favorite TV shows?
Too many to say, so let me narrow it down to ones that are currently on the air:

  • Dirt
  • The Simpsons

  • The Ellen Degeneres Show
  • Oprah
  • The Soup

I don’t even use my real last name on here. So just for fun, let’s say Nathan North West is my full name.

5:01PM CST

10. Favorite Sandwich?
Club sandwich, easy on the lettuce. I don’t like a whole garden in there.

11. What characteristic do you despise?
Pushiness, cockiness, rudeness… basically anything that entails being dominating, aggressive, or hurtful to others.

My pajamas, which are my uniform

Hawaii, which I will someday

A surprise birthday party in 2005 when my friends from North Carolina flew in to Nashville. They showed up at the doorstep at 11PM, and I had a cleanser on my face when I answered the door.

16. Furthest place you are sending this?
I guess as far as it wants to go?

17. Person you expect to send it back?
Anybody who has the time, I suppose.

18. Morning person or a night person?
Night person… I’m nocturnal like a cat.

19. What is your shoe size?
10-11, depending on the material.

20. Pets?
2 cats, 1 very noisy dog, and I guess this damn family of bunnies is ours now too since they eat our grass in the front yard, then poop it out in the backyard, then go to sleep on the porch.

Prepare yourself for a shocker… Mariah!

It’s blasphemy, I tell you!

Tonight I installed Windows on my Mac. It doesn’t even look right when I type it.

Here’s how it happened…

When I quit my job last year and started my full time web design company, I knew I would need a PC to check my work on. I think it’s always wise to make sure your sites look good in all web browsers and across all computers. So before I left, I asked if I could take one of their old PC’s with me that was just sitting in the closet. They said it was fine.

I have to admit, that old PC has really helped me out this past year. True, it’s running Windows 98, it uses a floppy disk drive, it doesn’t recognize the mouse, and it smells like weed. Yes, weed. Marijuana. I’ve never smoked it, but I know what it smells like. Oh, and did I mention it wouldn’t connect to my wireless network so it doesn’t have internet access?

But hey, it was free. I would use a USB drive and port data back and forth from my Mac, checking out my work. It got the job done and I was able to make sure my work looked good before presenting it to clients. It was surprisingly zippy for only having 32MB of RAM (yes, you read that correctly). I think that 98 was the last good version of Windows. I truly do.

Anyhoo, my needs have outgrown the little weed machine. I needed a fully functional, modern copy of Windows. So I bought Windows XP off eBay (because Vista is shitacious!) and I installed it on my Mac.

The sad thing is that Windows runs better on a Mac than I’ve ever seen it run on a PC. Imagine that.

So there you have it. I’ve whored out my Mac to Microsoft. Are you happy now? :)

How much would a lifetime of experiences weigh if you could put a number on it? Just think about it.

I recently read a post on my friend Rey’s blog about the weight of a human soul. Does the soul have a weight?

It was proceeded with a photo gallery of subjects before and after they died. It’s undeniable that people do look different after death, and I’m sure there is a medical explanation for some of it. But I think the question of weight is a good one, and I’ve never stopped to ponder it. The subjects do look like they’ve lost weight. But where did it all go?

Tonight I was thinking about that, about my own soul, and the weight it has within me. There is so much energy contained in all living beings, and it’s incredible to think about how much that energy would weigh. The love and the hatred, the joy and the pain. A lifetime of memories, miracles, disappointments and failures. We all have those. Can’t you just sense a person’s energy when you’re near them? Some people have a really heavy, negative feeling that comes from them. Do you think that’s part of their soul?

I guess the deeper message I got was just thinking about my own soul in general. It’s something unique and special that we all have. It can’t be duplicated, it can’t be stored or captured. It’s a part of me, and in a way, I guess it is me.

This is the blog that Nathan’s soul wrote. :)

Mmmm, dessert pizza with Boboli pizza crust…

The recipe is very simple and included on the packaging:

  • 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips (mmmm, gooey)
  • 1 cup of golden grahams cereal (crun-chay!)
  • 2 cups of mini marshmallows (toas-tay!)

The sweet aroma filled the kitchen as I baked the dessert pizza in the oven for 10 minutes.

Just look how delicious it appears. Heaven. Pure and true. It even got a little scorched on the edges, just like at a campfire.

I excitedly took my first bite, the flavors filling my mouth.

Chocolate. Cereal. Marshmallow. Something weird….

What is that taste?

Another bite…

Chocolate. Cereal. Marshmallow. Something weird.

What the hell is that???

The topping was so good, but I kept getting hit with a funky aftertaste (do we still say funky?).

I ran to the kitchen to read the ingredients on the packaging.

GARLIC?!

Whaaaaaaaaat?

I started to gag. My stomach churned as the garlic and chocolate converged, making me feel very nauseous.

Damn you, Boboli. What a stupid recipe!
