Nathan Exposed: the naked truth about my gay life

How many readers are a fan of Showtime’s series Dexter? When it debuted in 2006, there were a lot of readers who commented to say they loved it. I’m wondering if you maintained your interest until the end of season 2? The season 2 finale airs tonight on Showtime.

If you are a fan, you’re probably quite excited to see how it all unfolds after being left with the cliffhanger of last week’s episode. What will happen when Lila discovers James? Is Dexter really going to turn himself in? And what about those pesky internet rumors that Dexter kills himself and Lila takes over in season 3? (Okay, I made that one up… or did I?)

I have all the answers. The last episodes were leaked early in December, and I was surprised to notice there wasn’t more buzz about them, at least not on sites I’d expect. And there’s heavy speculation that Showtime is responsible for the leak. The network made no effort to have the leaks taken offline, and they were actually very easy to get. So maybe it really was a clever marketing ploy.

So what happens… who dies… do you really want to know?

    Here is what happens…

Lila discovers James, and he tells her everything about Dexter being the Bay Harbor Butcher. In a very tense scene, you think that Lila is going to rescue James. But instead, she takes pity on Dexter, falling under the assumption they are truly soulmates.

In order to prove her love for Dexter, she sets off gas in the shack and then lights a flame. There is a huge explosion, and it’s quite spectacular. James is fried.

Once the fire is contained, the authorities identify the body of James, and also find the victim that was being stored there. They consider it a closed case and James is known as the Butcher. Dexter is a free man.

Dexter figures out that Lila is behind the explosion, and makes an attempt to trap her by pretending to be in love with her. She falls for it temporarily, but then finds his set of tools, only to realize he was going to kill her.

She then kidnaps Rita’s children and holds them hostage in her apartment, along with Dexter. She sets the place on fire and Dexter just barely makes it out alive, rescuing the children in the process.

Lila then flees the country and goes to Paris. In the closing scene, Dexter tracks her down and kills her.

Dexter is now a free man once again. All the murders of his past have now been pinned on a dead man, and Lila, who was the only other person who knew Dexter’s secret, is dead too.

He has a clean slate, and vows to continue killing again, only this time, using his own code instead of Harry’s. The episode ends with the insinuation that Dexter will have a new method for his murders in season 3.

In the narration, Dexter states that he believes God, or the Universe, has given its blessing to his murders because of the way everything played out.
