Nathan Exposed: the naked truth about my gay life

I know the Kanye West/MTV controversy is old news, but I caught an interview of him today that I felt the need to chime in on. It was last Friday’s episode of The Ellen Degeneres Show. Sometimes I get behind, but I catch up on Tivo. Anyway, he was explaining why he was upset with MTV.

Kanye gets a lot of criticism for his attitude and cockiness. I can see why it would annoy people. In fact, Rodney is passionately against anything Kanye does specifically because he doesn’t like Kanye’s attitude.

But I’m actually proud to admit that I have a lot of Kanye’s music that I’ve purchased through iTunes. He’s very creative and talented. His persona does not change the fact that it’s good music.

Although his tantrum at MTV does indeed come off as childish, I have to step back and see it for what it really is. Kanye was upset, and most people do get upset when they lose. But as adults, we are pressured to keep it inside and just wear a smile.

I’m sure there are hundreds of celebrities each year that wear a smile on camera, then go home and throw the biggest tantrum you could imagine. Kanye just chooses to express himself freely and openly.

While this can also be destructive behavior if it goes too far, it does remind me of my post last week, when I said people try too hard to suppress their emotions.

Love it or hate it, Kanye is more real and honest than most celebrities. I say “cheers” to that.

Uh oh… we’re going to have to disagree on this one. I don’t believe this was a case of Kanye being upset that he didn’t win. It’s a case of Kanye feeling “entitled” to have won. He felt like he “deserved” the award. You also have to remember what he said: that he didn’t win because he was black. Now, as everyone knows, MTV is VERY supportive of black artists and urban culture. For him to throw the race card into the ring is unfair and unprofessional.

When celebrities and artists go to award ceremonies, there is an unwritten rule that you need to be respectful and mindful of your peers. His tantrum did nothing more than expose him as an ingrate and an immature one at that.

As you know, I’m a publicist for a number of high profile artists, and have worked with arguably some of the biggest names in music (Sting, Britney, Backstreet Boys, Macy Gray, No Doubt, etc.). If ANY of my clients had pulled that stunt, I would have gone OFF on them and perhaps even quit the campaign.

It’s one thing to show your true emotions. It’s another to do it selfishly.

Sorry Nathan, but I still think it was all part of a big MTV set up in a desperate attempt to boost up their audience. And that includes not only Kanye West but Britney Spears, Tommy Lee and Kid Rock.

But when he throws a hissy fit when he doesn’t win like a 6-year-old? No. He may be talented, but he’s also very full of himself which he is NOT being honesty about with himself.
