Nathan Exposed: the naked truth about my gay life

It’s been a dark day for my family. My Grandmother passed away this evening. They had removed her IV yesterday, so we knew it would just be a matter of time. I’m sad about it, but in some twisted way, I feel peace now because I know she’s okay.

In addition, my cousin died in a car wreck. She lost control of the wheel and the car flipped over. She was 23. Her 1-year-old baby was in the car but is unharmed thanks to good child-restraints. See, those things really do matter.

I didn’t know her extremely well, but it’s sad just the same.

Rodney and I are heading out to Illinois tomorrow, so I’ll catch up with everyone after Labor Day. Have a safe and fun weekend, everyone.

Did anyone see the full moon last night? It was captivating.

Everything was clear and the light was so bright that I could see all the dark tones of blue in the sky. It reminded me of a story my parents always used to tell me about when I was a child. I don’t remember it, but apparently I had a fascination with the moon at a very early age.

My parents were camping by a lake. I kept wondering out by the water and saying “moooooooon”. They couldn’t sleep because they were afraid I’d end up drowning in the water overnight. So they had to get in the car and drive me to my Grandma and Grandpa’s house to stay the rest of the night while they went back.

I do love the moon. Some of the most beautiful things in life are those that have been with us our whole lives. Even if we neglect them, they are still there. It never fails to amaze me that I can go outside and look at something and you can be miles away and see the same thing.

So if you’re out tonight and happen to look up, take a second to enjoy the full moon. And keep in mind that I can see the same thing.

emeraldDear Emerald:

I am writing today regarding your Deluxe Mixed Nuts. I would like to whine about discuss the things I don’t like about them, and then expand my whining discussing to cover the general realm of your products.

First of all, what is the story with the cashews? Why do all cans of mixed nuts have an over-abundance of cashews? Even mixed nuts from other companies have a crazy amount of cashews. I’m assuming cashews are the cheapest nut of the bunch, and therefore you cram them into the can to save yourself money. Meanwhile, you drop a few almonds in there (which are expensive) and slap a $5 price tag on the can.

Now, on to the bigger picture… I am allergic to onions. Well, not “allergic-allergic.” You see, I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome, a condition that affects 10% of the population (for reals). Onions are one of the leading triggers for an IBS episode, which results in painful cramping and upset stomach.

As a result, I can’t buy your cans of walnuts or smoked almonds because you insist of sprinkling them with onions. I’m sure these nuts taste delicious, as I watch my partner Rodney eat them happily while I drool. But why do you insist on using onions on your nuts? Is that your unique contribution to the world of nuts? I’ve never heard of anyone mixing onions with nuts. When was the last time someone stopped and said “Gee, these nuts would be so much better with onions”?

So that is my beef with you Emerald. It’s too bad, because I really like your nuts. And to show just how much this bothers me… I’m going to boycott buying your brand.

Just look at what happened when I wrote that bad review about Campbells because of their sloppy Soup at Hand. My sharp words devastated the soup industry. Absolutely devastated. They have never been the same.

So I suggest you ease up on the cashews in your mixed nuts. Oh, and get rid of those onions too!

Warmly,

Nathan

Introducing the group BearForce1, which I found out about through TJ.

I love bears. I keep 2 on reserve in the attic. They’re great for those cold winter nights.

Find out more about BearForce1 on their website.

Bert and ErnieToday Bert and Ernie officially came out of the closet as gay men, while simultaneously announcing their plans to be married. This news comes hot off the heels of a revealing photo of the two engaged in a sexual act, which reporter Jason of Let’s Say You’re Right posted 3 days ago.

Bert and Ernie’s sexuality has constantly been under the microscope in recent years. Despite rumors, they chose to keep their relationship a secret until Jason’s exclusive photo hit the internet. It was then that they mutually decided it was finally time to make the announcement.

Bert and Ernie have declined to comment further at this time. Stay tuned for more details…

Thanks for all the well wishes, positive thoughts, and prayers in response to my previous post about my Grandma. Having a blog really does help in times like this because I can get things off my chest and also share them with my pals on here.

Well, the outlook is grim. She had a stroke that affected both sides of her brain and it was about as severe as possible. She cannot swallow, which means she can’t eat, and they don’t think she will be able to hear, see, or speak. They aren’t even sure if she can comprehend anything.

She’s not in a coma, but she also isn’t “awake”. I’ve been thinking about it and wondering where a person goes within themselves in times like these. She isn’t dead, but not exactly alive. So where is my Grandma right now?

They put a feeding tube in her temporarily but my family will need to make a decision soon. I guess I’m in denial, because I keep thinking somehow she is going to push through and prove everyone wrong. I don’t know if that’s denial or just extreme optimism, but I just can’t believe it’s over yet.

According to the doctors, the best case scenario is that she will be a vegetable living off a feeding tube. She will never be “Grandma” again. Worst case scenario is that they remove the tube and let nature take its course. I’m not happy with either outcome.

But truth be told, she’s 82. It’s not exactly a shocker. Still… it’s just so difficult to give up on her. She’s still breathing, her heart is still beating… so to me, there is still hope.

On a sidenote, I highly encourage anyone reading to decide whether or not you’d want to be kept alive on a feeding tube, and put it in writing so that the decision is officially made.

My Grandma does not have such a document, and so now the burden is on my family to decide. We honestly don’t know what she wanted either way.

For anyone who is willing, please send your prayers and positive energy to my Grandmother. She had a stroke today at age 82, and I am doing my best to send all the positive energy to her that I can to ensure that she recovers and continues to live a healthy life, as she has been. She’s a tough woman, and I admire her strength. I am hoping that this is just another bump in the road which she will bounce back from. :)

Thank you in advance.

With gratitude,

Nathan

I surrender! I’m a big ol’ quitter.

Operation Toilet Training is officially over. The cats won. The litter box has been released from captivity.

They started out really well using the toilet training kit. I was so excited the first time I woke up to fresh cat poo in the toilet. It was like Christmas morning.

When I switched to the flushable cat litter, that’s when things got ugly. So I switched back to the old kind, and they did start using it again, but it was never the same. It was pretty obvious they didn’t like the toilet, and they would hold out as long as possible.

If I really wanted to be a drill sargent, I could probably press on and they’d adjust. But I hate to do that. Afterall, going to the bathroom is a personal thing. I certainly wouldn’t want to go in a condition that made me uncomfortable, so why should they?

As far as the product, I can honestly say it does work. Both of our cats used the toilet, so it is possible. In my particular case, they just didn’t like the adjustment and so I give in.

My friend Larry pointed out today that it’s been over a week since my last post, oops! I didn’t even realize it. A lot of my friends refer to my blog to find out what’s going on in my life, so I can see why it would seem odd when I don’t post.

Well I’m still here, and everything’s fine and dandy :). Last week was pretty busy, and we went out of town on Friday to see family… just got back tonight.

Here’s a few tidbits of things on my mind… nothing heavy, mostly music and movie related:

- What’s going on with everyone hating Dustin on Big Brother? I had no idea. Well, he’s gone, and Rodney and I can’t stomach anymore of people like Dick, so I don’t think we’ll be watching anymore.

- Today is when Darren Hayes’ 2 disc release comes out, titled This Delicate Thing We’ve Made. I can’t wait to get that! Darren is one singer who has been consistently good throughout his music career and I really love the samples I’ve heard so far.

- I bought orchestra seats for Kathy Griffin’s performance in Nashville next month. The seats are really in a great spot! We saw her in 2006 and she’s one person that I can faithfully say I would pay to see every time she comes here. She is considerably more relaxed when the camera isn’t on her, which results in a much funnier routine.

- Tonight I watched Laura, a really great Academy Award winner from 1944. If you like older mysteries, this is one to check out. I’m surprised I hadn’t seen it sooner.

Okay, this post was pretty hodge podge, but that’s what’s on my mind. :)
