My morning routine is now changed, and I think I kind of like it.
Rodney and I each commute about 45 mins. - 1 hour from our jobs, and it’s been that way for awhile now. Actually, it doesn’t bother me at all. But the problem is that they are on completely different sides of the map. As a result, we do a lot of driving separately, and our worlds never meet up except when we’re at home.
That’s changed now that Rodney got a job at a hotel just 5 minutes from where I work. Carpooling to work was a given. But the difference is that Rodney works 7AM - 3PM while I usually work 9AM - 5PM. We really wanted to go to work together, so I’ve adjusted my schedule to start work at 7.
Today was the first day. We got up at 5AM (normal for Rodney), got cleaned up, dressed, ate breakfast, took Petey out, made lunch and left the house. It was still dark out, the temperature was a miserable 13 degrees, and it was 6AM.
At first, I was just exhausted. I’m never up this early unless it’s from the night before. If I had to live by my internal clock, I would stay up very late and sleep through the morning. That’s just how I’m programmed.
But I have to admit there was something kind of fun about being up so early. I felt like a special member of some private club. There were very few cars on the road in the morning, and coming home was pretty easy too.
It almost felt like I’d played a big trick. Here we were, cruising along without anyone in our way. Wow.
I kind of like this new schedule. This early bird must have caught the worm.
