Nathan Exposed: the naked truth about my gay life

I thought this was a very effective exercise. Write down your answers and really be honest with yourself. Keep it to yourself if you want, that’s what I’m doing. Or share it. Whatever you want, it’s just interesting to do.

- What makes you happy at work?
- What makes you happy at home?
- What makes you happy with your friends and family?
- What makes you happy when you’re by yourself?
- What do you love to do?
- What would you do with your life today if you weren’t afraid of failure?
- What’s not working in your life?
- What are you currently doing that prevents you from experiencing joy?
- What’s working in your life?
- Who’s not working in your life? (Notice the change from “what” to “who”.)
- Who in your life is subtracting value from and adding misery to it?
- Can you fix any of these relationships, or should you let them go from your life?
- What relationships are working in your life?
- If we were getting together one year from today, what would have to happen for you to be able to tell me that you now have more joy in your life?
- What’s the single most important thing you’ve learned about yourself as a result of answering these questions?

Well Nathan I want to share my answers ;-)

    - What makes you happy at work?
I don’t work phew, but being at school is like working right? well, I think being there with my friends makes me very happy. Indeed so happy that I only go to school to talk to them not to study.
    - What makes you happy at home?
Being with my family and specially having a relaxing time in front of the xbox 360 and the TV.
    - What makes you happy with your friends and family?
Talking for hours! [usually about other people (in a good or a bad way)]
    - What makes you happy when you’re by yourself?
Listening to my iPod while walking and thinking…
    - What do you love to do?
starts with M…. *haha* just kidding. Well, I enjoy watching TV series and chatting in the internet with people I’ve never known from all around the globe
    - What would you do with your life today if you weren’t afraid of failure?
Selling drugs *duh* no… working on anything!, maybe putting down weight, but I’ve been trying for some years, really doubt I’m gonna make it
    - What’s not working in your life?
Putting down weight? Having someone to love me? *-) Being good at school? Family (my family is completely messed up… my grandparents, uncles and aunts are a very complex subject, they hide many secrets, disturb each other, almost none of them seems to progress in life. Oh, and my brother is a little messed up too.)
    - What are you currently doing that prevents you from experiencing joy?
    mmm… *-) not sure yet :-(
    - What’s working in your life?
Friends… Family (at least my parents)
    - Who’s not working in your life? (Notice the change from “what” to “who”.)
    Oops, already told that…
    - Who in your life is subtracting value from and adding misery to it?
Mmm… maybe my evil grandmother (she’s the main ‘messer’ of my family) hahaha. Sometimes I think my friends because they don’t have positive values, they’re always attacking each other even on their backs.
    - Can you fix any of these relationships, or should you let them go from your life? Mmm… maybe I’ll try talking to my friends. However, I’m sure my evil grandmother won’t listen to me, she’s always bitching around, and shouting and making up stories to make me look as the worst grandson in the whole earth, and so does to my mom even after she took care of all of my uncles because she was a terrible mother.
    - What relationships are working in your life?
With some friends… with my parents (specially mom). My godparents (which I actually like my grandparents, I have more connection with them and their daughters than my whole family).
    - If we were getting together one year from today, what would have to happen for you to be able to tell me that you now have more joy in your life?
    - What’s the single most important thing you’ve learned about yourself as a result of answering these questions?
That I should try fixing those relations that don’t work at a 100%. And that I should stop worrying about my evil grandmother and the things that my family hides. Oh, and I should keep trying to do my ‘objectives’ even if I don’t make it.

    Ciao ;-)

damn I forgot a question how stupid!!
      - If we were getting together one year from today, what would have to happen for you to be able to tell me that you now have more joy in your life?
Fixing the problems that my friends have between them, Figuring out what the hell’s wrong with my brother, and maybe trying to fix my family althought that might be so stressing that I won’t do it.

Thanks for sharing that with me :)

It sounds like there is a lot of negativity in your family, and sometimes we subconsciously end up being friends with people who are exactly the same way (because it’s familiar). The good news is that you can completely break free from the negative patterns of your family and friends, and it sounds like you’re working very hard to do it.

Just remember that you are the only one who can choose your life experience. If you want it to be a happy life, you can create that for yourself and eventually build a solid network of people who bring happiness to your life, instead of destruction.

Also, sorry to hear about your weight struggles. Some people just carry more weight than others, it’s part of their body’s chemistry. I think it’s more important to be healthy and active, rather than just focusing on weight. There are many people who are underweight, who are actually just as unhealthy because they don’t get enough nutrition.

If you find something that keeps you physically active and focus on eating healthy foods, you will feel better and that’s the most important part.

Again, thanks for sharing. I believe in you, and I know you can be happier and healthier. Remember that other people’s drama is not your own. :)
