Somebody stop the madness!
Okay, it has to be said, so listen up boys. Embedding Windows Media files on your blog is not cute. This trend needs to go away.
Years ago, there was a big boom of personal webpages. As a result, there was an overload of poor design. We’re talking animated gifs and obnoxious MIDI files that blared compterized music. Finally, people realized this was a bad idea, and the trend died out.
Now, enter the blog boom. The trend has started all over again, but this time it’s gigantic WMV files that take over your browser. I click over to a blog and suddenly my peaceful silence is interrupted with an annoying video clip buried 10 posts down in the page.
I can’t focus on the author’s content because I’m too busy looking for the STOP button.
A simple solution that will make everyone happy:
If you want to share a video clip, offer a link to the video file that opens on a different page. I do this all the time.
It’s much more user friendly. And if you don’t believe me when I say it’s annoying, take a poll. Or better yet, just search Google for articles on bad website design.
