It’s here, one of my favorite holidays. Happy Halloween everyone!
A lot of people have been posting some really great Halloween content on their blogs. I love the stories of people’s own life experiences with the supernatural. I also love the funny Halloween pics. Have you seen this one from Purple Twinkie’s blog? It features dogs dressed up in Halloween costumes.
I have to note Kirk’s blog, My So Called Strife. This place is Halloween Central! All month long, Kirk has been posting spooky stories from his childhood, vintage Halloween photos, Halloween humor, TV schedules for horror movies, and more. If you haven’t been there, check it out. There are so many great Halloween posts to read.
Happy Haunting everyone!
The Halloween episode of the Ellen Degeneres Show will be tomorrow, October 31st. Rodney and I are in the audience, 1 row back from the row Ellen dances through. I’m dressed in red as a pimp, and Rodney is dressed as Elton John.
The Beginning
The day started at 9 A.M. Rodney and I took a cab to NBC Studios in Burbank, Studio 11. We had 9 hours before they started taping, and there were already 20 people in line. One guy (the Devil) had been there since 5 A.M.
We went to the end of the sidewalk and started talking to these 2 sisters, the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda, from the Wizard of Oz. Shortly afterwards, these 4 women got out of a cab and stood next to us. They were wearing flannel shirts, glasses, and their asscracks were showing! Actually they had fake asscracks under the jeans sticking out of the top. They were so funny.
They told us they were from Canada and they were dressed up as characters from a Canadian sitcom making fun of the stereotypes Americans have about Canadians. We had a great time talking to the Canadians and the Witches.
11:37 A.M.
Rodney and I were standing in line with one of the Canadians when we heard a car honking from down the street. We all looked up. It was Ellen, driving up in her sleek black Porsche. Her window was down and she had a great big smile on her face. She waved at all of us and slowed down at the gate.
The other 3 Canadians were standing up at the gate socializing and they caught Ellen’s attention. They turned around and showed Ellen their asscracks. Ellen laughed and said something to them, then drove in.
We were all excited and it really made the day fly by. Throughout the day, people from the show came out to see the costumes, take surveys, answer questions.
4:3o-5-ish P.M.
People from the show started breaking us up into groups and brought us inside the gates. We went through metal detectors and then were seated on benches. They had monitors that played Thursday’s episode of the show with Antonio Banderas.
Around 6 P.M.
They brought us through the Riff Raff room and into the main studio and told us where to sit in the audience. They assign people seats based on height, costume, etc.
Rodney and I were seated in the middle of the row, right behind the row Ellen dances through. I think it was the 3rd row up. The camera was right in my way, so we snuck down a few seats so we had a direct view of Ellen’s chair.
Pre-Show
Tony came out and we had music. A guy dressed up as a potato chip was going around looking for good dancers. If you keep up with the show, you know why he was dressed as a chip. He pulled the first person down and they went to the front, near Ellen’s stage, and danced in front of everyone, then got a T-Shirt.
Next, they pulled Rodney down and announced him as Elton John! We all started clapping and yelling for him and he went down and did his thing at the stage. I was so excited for him. He came back to the seat and just couldn’t believe what happened.
The Show Began
The show was pretty much as it looks on TV. Everything was filmed in sequence. There is about 1 or 2 mins. in between segments for the “commercial break”. During the break, they set-up the scene and have the audience dance so they can film it. We got advance copies of Star Wars Episode III. We also watched a special “sneak peek” from the new Harry Potter movie (Eddy and Sugarfoot now go apeshit).
There was one commercial break when Ellen was looking up at us. Rodney and I raised our hands really high and waved at Ellen. She noticed us, smiled and waved back.
Observations about the Show
The biggest surprise was that Ellen does not really interact with the audience at all. She is very focused on the scenes, watching the monitors, etc. It takes a lot of hard work to keep up with a show this popular. She must be under stress all the time. But she handles it well. She is just as funny and nice as she seems on TV.
The show looks very easy-going on TV, but it’s actually very well-planned and scheduled. There are people all around to keep things moving very quickly. Each scene is filmed in 1 take, they tell the audience when to clap, when to cheer, how loud to be, etc. It’s all been worked out in advance.
What to Look For
There are 3 screens above the audience, and you can see how the show will look immediately. When they were filming us, we saw it on the screens. When they changed angles, we saw it happen. Even the graphics were added to the scene as they happened.
Unless it’s edited out, Rodney and I are in a lot of the opening scenes. Look for the pimp in bright red and the Elton John with big sunglasses and a feather hat.
Also, look for the Owl (she was so funny!) and one of our Canadian friends having a dance competition in the aisles.
Best Costume You’ll Never See
We were glad the Owl made it onto the show, but the producers snubbed the girl she came with… who was dressed up as a milk carton with the missing chip on it. The costume was so original! We couldn’t believe they ignored her and picked Bree from Desperate Housewives instead.
After the Show
After taping, Ellen talked to the audience and told us how much she appreciated us standing in line all day in our costumes. She was pouring on the compliments and being so nice. She then filmed a promo for the city of Houston, then went to the Riff Raff room to see the people there. I’m guessing they will add that scene to Monday’s show.
Once it was all over and done with, we couldn’t believe it. Everything seemed like a dream. It was a great experience! We met up with the Canadians and went across the street to this mexican restaurant that Ellen visited once last season on the show.
We just got back from California and had the best time at Ellen’s show! I have so much to say, but will have to get to that later.
In the mean time, I wanted to show you this photo of me with some nuns. I dressed as a pimp for Ellen’s Halloween show. This is outside the studio where we waited in line.
These are some guys who were in line with us. They wanted to take a photo bowing at my feet (i.e. the sexless nuns next to the pimp). Once they were down on all fours, I put my hands on their heads.
I thought that would be a funny extra
So watch Ellen on Monday! Rodney is dressed as Elton John and we are in the middle row, right behind the row Ellen dances through. During the pre-show, they called Rodney down to dance at the stage, so maybe they will show that clip too!
Just a reminder, I’ll be absent from my blog through the rest of the week.
Rodney and I are going to to California for a little vacation, and we’re going to be in the audience of the Ellen Degeneres show. So much fun! It’s the Halloween episode.
In the mean time, I need to post something for the road…
Okay, here’s an idea. How about a video teaser of Robbie Williams naked, slapping around his dick and rubbing his nipple?
How’s that for a teaser?
Okay fellow flaming queens, you know what today is. “The Wizard of Oz” has been re-released on DVD for the hundredth time. What’s the special occasion? Money, of course.
Yes, seriously. But if you love “special features” then you’ll probably run out and buy it, because there are a lot included in the 2 disc set. The new cover art is awesome, and I love cover art. If you really want to go ape-shit, you can even get the 3-disc edition. But the cover on that isn’t as good.
Now would be a good time to tell you that I was obsessed with “The Wizard of Oz” when I was growing up. I remember the 50th anniversary in 1989. There was every kind of collectible you could imagine. And I wanted all of them.
One of the stereotypes about gay men is that they love Judy Garland. I hate stereotypes, but that one is partially true. I used to love Judy Garland….back when I was 8 years old. I suppose I still love her, but I haven’t seen a movie of hers in years.
But I still remember all my favorites. “Meet Me in St. Louis” was one of them. Do you remember the Trolley Song? And the “Harvey Girls” was great, plus Angela Lansbury was at her bitchy best in that one. “Easter Parade”, that was a good one. Judy was always so dramatic. I remember when she told Fred Astaire “You don’t even know the color of my eyes!”. He grabs her and kisses her, then says “They’re brown.”
I know I’m probably the only one who thinks this is funny, but once again someone has found my blog by searching for “juicy smegma”.
I am now the #1 search result on MSN for these keywords. Take that, Fleshbot! And the more I talk about it, the more it will be indexed, therefore creating this cycle of dirty search results.
Aside from that, I also get a lot of click-throughs for “smegma” in general. So I guess I’m building an audience of kinky mofo’s. When I get back from California, I’m going to create a whole entry about smegma.
Hey, don’t blame me, I’m just giving the people what they want
Just a note to acknowledge that Rosa Parks has passed away at the age of 92.
On Dec. 1, 1955, Rosa changed history by refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white man.
The 50th anniversary of this event is just around the corner.
After half a century, we have come very far with civil rights. We still have a long way to go for equality, but progress comes one day at a time.
