We had an outdoor ceremony in a friend’s backyard, overlooking the Cumberland River in Nashville. It was a beautiful spring day. Mother Nature really was looking out for us because we’d just had a cold, rainy week that lasted right up until the big day, and the following week was plagued with storms, tornadoes, and extreme wind damage. Nestled in between all the madness was this perfect Saturday, in which we were surrounded by sunshine and the love of our family and friends.

The ceremony opened with a live performance by a group of our friends. They sang “You Raise Me Up” as our Mothers were walked down the aisle. Then Daniel and I came down opposite sides of the aisle, meeting in the middle in front of the minister. We walked in to the song “Come What May” by Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman. During the ceremony, Daniel sang an emotional rendition of “You Are the Love of My Life.” Everyone was in tears. What an amazing memory.

The reception followed with tasty southern comfort food and of course, the centerpiece of every reception, the wedding cake. Daniel and I designed the cake right down to the last detail. We were quite proud of how it turned out.

Daniel’s Mother gave a touching toast and said that she was so happy to have gained another son in her family. It was very moving and heartfelt. Daniel got a bit misty eyed.

Our first dance was to Uncle Kracker’s “Smile,” which we consider to be “our song.”
