I Voted For Change

Rodney and I cast our vote today for Barack Obama. Voting is such an exciting thing. I’m really glad to have the privilege and it’s something I don’t take for granted.

Change? Like quarters and dimes? You’ll be happy to know that my momma and pop in law are casting theirs for Grandaddy.
What voting system do they use there? Here in Cincinnati it’s paper ballots with optical scanners. I worry about faulty machines on Nov. 4. I also worry about Obama voters taking it for granted their candidate will win and deciding their votes aren’t really needed.
Hi Frank — We used electronic machines. They were pretty good, actually. The buttons were physical keys that you have to punch, which is a bit more reliable than touch screen technology. So I pushed a button and then the screen registered what I had chosen. Once I confirmed it, I moved on to the next category I was voting in. When I was finished, I hit a final button to confirm, and then I had to push a large red button to finally record the vote. So they took a lot of precaution.
But like you said… if it’s faulty, it’s all for nothing. Since it was electronic, a pessimist might say it could just delete my vote completely with no paper trail.
I’m kind of glad to hear you’re doing paper ballots there in Ohio, an important state to win. And I agree, it’s important to make sure every Obama supporter gets out there and votes. I’m encouraging every one I know to commit that vote.
Hopefully we’ll wake up Nov. 5th doing a victory dance!
In addition to casting our own votes for Obama, we must all be vigilent in the next 10 days, reminding everyone we know, across the country, to vote and then to remind everyone THEY know, etc.
Create your own phone or e-mail or texting trees! Find out if elderly or disabled neighbors who support Obama need rides to the voting booths!
Fellow readers, please do something, anything, to help ensure that Obama is elected!!!!!!!!!
