Fact Check on Taxes

Oct 3, 2008 | Filed in Politics | 1 Comment

I love CNN’s Fact Check series on their website. They take accusations from both political parties and clear up the facts in an un-biased, journalistic manner.

One claim that both McCain and Palin insist on throwing out multiple times during the debate is this claim: Barack Obama voted 94 times to raise taxes.

Let’s get the “straight talk” since clearly the Republicans aren’t willing to give it:

Barack Obama DID vote 94 times to raise taxes… Raise taxes for people who make more than $1 million per year!

So this accusation is technically true, but it doesn’t apply to the millions of middle class Americans who are working just to make ends meet each month.

In the internet age, I expect both McCain and Palin to be smarter about their accusations. Don’t they understand the concept of Google?

I think it’s so imperative for people to understand this, because I have actually heard undecided voters say they were concerned that an Obama-Biden administration would raise their taxes.

95% of Americans will have lower taxes under Obama. It’s that simple. The only people who will be taxed more are the wealthy, which make up 5% of the U.S. population.
