what triggers moods?
Following up on Monday’s post about being an early bird… well, the truth is sinking in – I’m really not a morning person (but I like the new hours).
I’ve always known that I wasn’t a “morning person”. But most of the time, I do pretty well. I don’t go off on people or anything like that, I just feel mildly irritable on the inside.
But with this new schedule, I am in the most extreme mood when I first get up. It lasts for about 2 hours. Then, finally, it tapers off and I’m pretty happy actually. I’m really happy when I get off work at 3PM and the sun is still shining.
I wonder what determines whether or not someone’s a “morning person”? Is there something chemical inside that makes me want to be that way? And why do I feel better after I’ve been awake for a couple of hours?
Actually the effect at night is the same, regardless of my schedule. When I first get home from work, I don’t like to be bothered. It lasts for a full hour. My patience is paper thin. I retreat to my home office and enjoy the alone time.
I’m not in a “bad mood” when I get off work. But it seems like I get irritated very quickly. There just seems to be a certain amount of time that I need to myself in order to relax. After I’ve had that time, I’m fine.
Hmmm, I’ll never understand it. But that’s me.

I can totally relate with you, I am not a morning person either. My wake up time is noon! I tend to be a little short until then. I know it, and I let my friends, family and co-workers know it.
I am most emphatically NOT a morning person. And I tend to find those who are morning people extremely annoying. Being all bustley and noisy and talky in the morning. It feels nice getting off work earlier, though. But, I’ve never had good success at getting to bed earlier so I can get enough sleep. Let me know how it goes.
I am not a morning person.
However, I have found (over the years) that I prefer to wake up early in the morning. Mostly because no one else does. This gives me the time to wake up on my own, watch whatever TV I want to, and basically grump all over the house. And best of all, no one is around to be bothered by it.
That way, by the time TheHusband gets up, I’m over it.
My mom used to say that it depends on the time you were born, I was born at 8 in the morning , so I am a morning person- but I AM NOT! – haha
What irritates you so after getting off work?
I don’t like getting up early, but love getting into the office prior to everyone and getting things done, thus I arise early, to leave by 6, so the drive only takes 1 hour as opposed to almost 1.5 hours. I too like to be alone when I get home to “de-stress” from the day, and the long commute home.
