what triggers moods?

Following up on Monday’s post about being an early bird… well, the truth is sinking in – I’m really not a morning person (but I like the new hours).

I’ve always known that I wasn’t a “morning person”. But most of the time, I do pretty well. I don’t go off on people or anything like that, I just feel mildly irritable on the inside.

But with this new schedule, I am in the most extreme mood when I first get up. It lasts for about 2 hours. Then, finally, it tapers off and I’m pretty happy actually. I’m really happy when I get off work at 3PM and the sun is still shining.

I wonder what determines whether or not someone’s a “morning person”? Is there something chemical inside that makes me want to be that way? And why do I feel better after I’ve been awake for a couple of hours?

Actually the effect at night is the same, regardless of my schedule. When I first get home from work, I don’t like to be bothered. It lasts for a full hour. My patience is paper thin. I retreat to my home office and enjoy the alone time.

I’m not in a “bad mood” when I get off work. But it seems like I get irritated very quickly. There just seems to be a certain amount of time that I need to myself in order to relax. After I’ve had that time, I’m fine.

Hmmm, I’ll never understand it. But that’s me. :)
