No Name-Calling Week
No Name-Calling Week is from January 22-26. It’s a national event that urges all schools to participate in educating children how traumatic the effects of bullying can be. This includes taunting each other about weight, height, intelligence, and sexual orientation/gender expression.
Growing up was hard for me because I was always bullied for being different. The after effects can last a lifetime. Actually, just last night I had a nightmare that I was back in school and being picked on for being gay. These guys knocked everything out of my bag and I had to be put in gym class with the girls because so much bullying was happening with the boys. Incidentally, that’s a true story. When I was in high school, I was beat up so much that they had to move me to class with the girls to stop the fighting. It’s kind of degrading if you think about it.
So if you’re a parent, or working in the school system, or just around kids in general, I urge you to ask schools to participate.
Thanks.

So that means I can’t call you “Pookie” this week?
Okay, I won’t call my new co-workers Dumb*ss this week.
Seriously, I sent the website on to a friend who is a kindegarten teacher, and our Exchange students high school.
It sucked that you were bullied at school. :S But I’m glad you seemed to have grown up relatively unscathed.
