Buzzzz
I enjoy the fact that when people are in meetings, they set their phone to vibrate in an effort to be courteous. But it’s actually no more polite than having a loud ring tone on.
Why?
Because the buzz is loud enough that everyone in the room hears it anyway. And nobody will acknowledge it. Meanwhile, the person who is buzzing stops paying attention, pulls out his phone to see who is calling, and then puts it away.
Next, everyone else gets paranoid about their phone. What if their phone was buzzing too and they missed a call? So each person whips out his phone to check it. Nope, no calls.
At this point, nobody is paying attention, but we all collectively pretend like nothing happened and we proceed to talk.
I’m not saying this is good or bad, I just find it mildly amusing. And yes, I do it too.
Incidentally, my phone buzzed while I was writing this. I stopped and took the call.

Umm… politeness… yeah, that’s why we set these things that we keep in our pockets to vibrate… : )
I actually turn off the vibrate mode as well for exactly that reason. The phone will simply list whose calls I have missed and I’d call them back after the meeting. Do I win the Miss Manners’ prize?
I solve the problemby not having a cell phone. Everyone knows that I’m 9/10s a hermit anyhow. I regard cell phones as an extremely long leash.
Huddadump!
I know, I shoud probably move into at least the 90′s.
Sigh…
You are such a nut! But you’re absolutely right on. It’s kind of amusing and interesting in a human nature sort of way. I’m mostly on buzz….and love it! Buried deep in my pocket. And I rarely answer.
This very thing happened last night in class. The buzzing in someone’s purse was louder than if it had rang. Another thing that is annoying is the caller called again after sent to voice mail. PEOPLE….voice mail is there for a reason. IF the phone isn’t answered the first time, leave a freaking message and be done with it!
