I love you Tivo

tivoThe early days of love…
It all started in August 2005. I met a guy named Tivo. He was funny and smart, and made cute sounds. The only problem is that he was high maintenance. Every two weeks, he just had to be connected to the phone line. He had to have it just right too. If the DSL modem was turned on, it caused interference and he wouldn’t connect, even though the phone line was clear to use.

The break up…
In May 2006, we moved into our first house and decided to ditch the phone line and DSL. We got cheaper rates with our cell phones, and faster internet with Cable. Tivo no longer had a connection to the phone, and this made him very upset. I tried to understand what he needed, but I was technologically challenged. I attempted to set-up a wireless internet connection so he could get updates, but was not successful. My patience grew thin and that was the end of my love affair with Tivo.

The evil new lover…
I replaced Tivo with a Motorola DVR from Comcast. Moto was a mean bitch indeed. Sometimes, Moto would erase all our shows, even when I specifically set them to NOT delete. There was plenty of storage space left, but Moto just felt like trashing them. Sometimes Moto wouldn’t record at all. No reason, just felt like taking a snooze.

The last straw…
On November 22nd, Moto did the unthinkable… the tragic… Moto did not record the NBC special of Madonna’s Confessions tour. *GASP!* You BITCH!

Moto was promptly returned to the Comcast office. I reconnected my service with Tivo and bought a 2nd Tivo for the upstairs TV. We’re in love again, and happier than ever. And I haven’t missed or lost one show to date.

The reunion…
So how did I solve the problem of connecting the Tivo for updates? A little miracle called a Belkin F5D5050 Networking USB to Ethernet Adaptor, which plugs into my Cable modem and sends speedy updates to the Tivo in 3 minutes flat.

Thank you, Belkin. You saved my relationship with Tivo.
